Burns Night at The Organic Butchery: Celebrate Scotland’s National Poet With a Proper Feast

Every January, Scotland turns its attention to one man: Robert Burns — the poet, the national treasure, and the man responsible for “Auld Lang Syne,” which everyone can sing, but hardly anyone knows the words to.

Burns Night falls on the 25th of January, and for Scots it’s a time to celebrate, eat well, toast to poetry, and show national pride. The night traditionally involves a “Burns Supper,” complete with bagpipes, readings and famously, haggis — Scotland’s most iconic dish.

In England, Burns Night is a bit more casual. Some celebrate it properly, others use it as a fun excuse for good food, good whisky and a reason to brighten up the late-January gloom. Either way, it’s a brilliant culinary tradition and one we’re always happy to get behind.

So… What Actually Is Haggis?

Haggis is a savoury pudding traditionally made with a blend of minced offal, oatmeal, onion, spices and stock. It’s robust, savoury, peppery and deeply comforting — especially on a cold winter night.

For the uninitiated, think of haggis as Scotland’s answer to a well-seasoned meatloaf or sausage stuffing. For seasoned haggis-lovers, it’s simply unbeatable.

Introducing Our Organic, Gluten-Free Haggis (With Free Whisky!)

This year at The Organic Butchery, we’re offering something we’re genuinely thrilled about:
Organic Gluten-Free Haggis, made using certified organic ingredients, and crafted to the classic Scottish recipe — only without the additives, preservatives or questionable fillers you’ll find in many supermarket versions.

Organic makes a real difference here:

  • cleaner, more honest ingredients

  • flavour that’s bold, peppery and complex

  • texture that’s rich but not stodgy

  • perfect for first-timers, and a treat for haggis loyalists

And because Burns Night calls for a dram, every haggis comes with a free 5cl bottle of Organic Nc’Nean Single Malt Scotch Whisky.

Nc’Nean Single Malt is beautifully rounded — expect notes of baking spice, malt sweetness, orchard fruit and a gentle creamy finish. It’s a gorgeous pairing with haggis, cutting through richness and lifting the savoury spices. It also makes the whole celebration feel just a little bit ritualistic (in the best way).

A Celebration Worth Trying

Whether you’re Scottish born and bred or simply haggis-curious, Burns Night is a brilliant chance to try something different, support organic farming, and enjoy a winter feast that has real heritage behind it.

If you’ve never tried haggis before, this is the perfect entry point: quality ingredients, thoughtful seasoning, no artificial nasties — and a miniature bottle of whisky to toast with. If you’re already a convert, then you know exactly why we’re excited.

Slàinte!
And happy Burns Night from all of us at The Organic Butchery.
