The cut

Cut from the forerib where you will find the showstopper daddy of all steaks the Tomahawk. The Cote de Boeuf makes a fantastic centerpiece at a BBQ and is a real treat to share, let the grass-fed fat melt into the meat and add the bone in the mix, and you’ve got yourself a giant of a steak that is all about flavour. Weighing 600g, it is still possible for the particularly hungry carnivores out there to take it down – but boy is it a challenge!

When you taste our beef you'll understand why we rear all of our cattle to the highest welfare and organic standards, graze them on grass and allow them to grow slowly to natural maturity. Not only is this the ethical way – the only way – to rear animals, it also results in meat of outstanding quality.

Absolutely beautiful cut of meat, we thoroughly enjoyed with a medley of fresh vegetables.

Very generous portioning of meat vs bone and the most tender and flavoursome beef with a decent amount of fat, cover with good unsalted butter, salt and pepper generously a pan as hot as you dare (as per Delia) seal on all sides quickly to get the desired caramelisation and then in the oven at 180 for around 20 mins for a sumptuous steak supper for two. Unbeatable for a show off super

This fed three of us and was very tasty. Just seared in the pan and then oven baked for about 20 mins. Finally finished off in the pan again, with garlic butter. Yummy!

Farm to block

We know every farm, every field, and every farmer by name.

We source from a small circle of certified-organic British family farms, where animals are raised slowly and properly. We butcher the whole animal, so nothing goes to waste, and every cut is prepared by master butchers who have dedicated their careers to the craft.

The Organic Difference

Know what you’re eating.

Three things we won’t compromise on, whatever the season.

  • British farms we know and trust

Certified organic and fully traceable, from British farms chosen for their high standards of animal welfare.

  • No halal slaughter

Our animals are stunned before slaughter, with no exceptions. Clear, straightforward and something we know matters to our customers.

  • Cut fresh by real butchers

Every order is cut and prepared by hand in Devon, then packed fresh for delivery to your door.

FAQs

Our Meat

Is your meat organic and certified?

At The Organic Butchery we are proud of our Soil Association organic certification. Our meat is certified organic and fully traceable, from British farms chosen for their high standards of animal welfare, and every cut is prepared by our skilled butchers.

Is your meat Halal?

No. None of our meat is Halal. All animals are stunned before slaughter, and for beef, lamb and pork we use irreversible stunning methods. We believe you should have complete clarity about how your meat has been raised and slaughtered.

What do the animals eat?

Our organic beef and lamb are 100% grass-fed. Pigs and poultry are fed certified organic diets suited to their needs.

Delivery

Where do you deliver?

We deliver across mainland UK. Enter your postcode at checkout to see available delivery days for your area.

How much is delivery, and when is it free?

Delivery is calculated at checkout based on your address. It's free on orders over £125. There's a minimum order of £50.

When is my order cut and dispatched?

Your order is cut fresh to order and packed the morning it ships, so it arrives in peak condition for your chosen delivery day.

Can I choose my delivery day?

Yes — pick any available delivery day at checkout that suits you. If you have a subscription, you can change the delivery day for any order from your account.

What if I'm not home when it arrives?

The insulation and ice packs keep everything chilled for up to 48 hours, so your order will stay fresh in a safe, shaded spot until you're back.

Packaging & Storage

How is my order kept fresh in transit?

Everything travels in an insulated box lined with 100% sheep's wool, with food-safe ice packs that keep your order chilled below 5°C for up to 48 hours.

Is the packaging recyclable?

Yes. The outer box and liner go in your kerbside recycling, and the wool insulation is natural and compostable. Ice packs can be refrozen and reused, or emptied and recycled.

How should I store everything when it arrives?

Unpack as soon as you can and refrigerate at 0–5°C. Anything you won't use before its use-by date freezes beautifully — defrost thoroughly in the fridge before cooking, and don't refreeze once thawed.

Ordering

Is there a minimum order?

Yes, the minimum order is £50. Free delivery kicks in over £125.

Can I change or cancel my order?

Get in touch as soon as possible and we'll do everything we can before your order is cut and dispatched.

What if something isn't right?

Tell us within 48 hours of delivery and we'll refund or replace it — no quibbles.

What does "previously frozen" mean?

Some products — mostly wild fish and game — have been frozen to lock in freshness, and are labelled "previously frozen". They arrive chilled and defrosted, ready for your fridge. Once defrosted, don't refreeze; enjoy within the shelf life shown.

Subscriptions

Do I have to subscribe?

Not at all. Every box and every cut is available as a one-off order. A subscription simply unlocks free delivery and lets you set a delivery schedule.

Can I skip, pause or cancel a subscription?

Anytime, from your account — skip a delivery, change the frequency, or cancel entirely. No calls, no notice period.
