Supporting Farms for City Children this Green Friday
As part of our Green Friday campaign, The Organic Butchery will donate £5 from every Green Friday meat box sold to Farms for City Children - supporting transformative, hands-on experiences that connect children with nature, farming, and the food they eat.

Farms for City Children was founded in 1976 by Lady Clare and Sir Michael Morpurgo, on the belief that every child, regardless of background, should have the chance to connect with the natural world. They provide immersive, nature-rich residential experiences on their three working heritage farms in Devon, Pembrokeshire, and Gloucestershire for children and young people aged 8–19 from underserved communities across England and Wales.

Their programme provides a wealth of new experiences that young people can draw on to support their emotional wellbeing and resilience, alongside growing transferable life skills and self-expectations.

During their 5-day stay, beneficiaries take part in purposeful farming and outdoor learning activities aligned to the farming calendar. Across all three sites, they work in partnership with local commercial farms to give children and young people a holistic understanding of food production and agriculture. They lead by example through nature-friendly, regenerative and sustainable farming practices and provide a practical introduction to higher animal welfare standards.

Farms for City Children exists to provide a week of learning and nurture that empowers young people to leave as curious, courageous and compassionate citizens.

Looking ahead to Farms for City Children’s 50th anniversary in 2026, we’re inspired by their legacy of connecting more than 104,500 children to farming, food, and nature since their founding in 1976.

As we celebrate this Green Friday partnership, we’re proud to play a small part in supporting their future - helping to empower young people to become the custodians of our landscape for generations to come.
