Organic Pastrami Deli Bagel with Mustard & Pickles

Nothing says indulgent lunch quite like a classic pastrami deli bagel — and when made with our Organic Pastrami (90g), it’s a world away from your average sandwich. This recipe brings together the smoky, peppery depth of our organic beef pastrami with the tang of mustard, the crunch of pickles, and the comfort of a freshly toasted bagel. A quick, easy meal that feels like a special treat — perfect for cosy winter lunches or weekend brunches.


Ingredients (Serves 2)

  • 2 organic bagels (plain or seeded)

  • 1 pack The Organic Butchery Organic Pastrami (90g)

  • 2 tbsp organic wholegrain mustard or Dijon mustard

  • 2 tbsp organic mayonnaise (optional for creaminess)

  • 2 slices organic Swiss cheese or Emmental

  • 1 organic gherkin or dill pickle, thinly sliced

  • ½ small organic red onion, finely sliced

  • Small handful organic rocket or lettuce

  • 1 tsp organic butter (for toasting)

  • Pinch of black pepper


Method

  1. Toast your bagels
    Slice the bagels in half and lightly butter the cut sides. Toast them in a hot pan or griddle until golden and crisp — this adds a lovely texture that holds up against the filling.

  2. Warm the pastrami
    In the same pan, warm the Organic Pastrami gently for 1–2 minutes on each side. You want it warm and fragrant, not dry — just enough to release the smoky aroma.

  3. Melt the cheese (optional but recommended!)
    Lay a slice of cheese over the pastrami while it’s still in the pan and cover with a lid for 30 seconds to melt.

  4. Build your bagel
    Spread mustard (and mayo, if using) generously on both sides of the toasted bagel. Layer on the warm pastrami, melted cheese, gherkin slices, red onion, and rocket or lettuce.

  5. Finish and serve
    Sandwich together and press gently. Slice in half and serve immediately — ideally with a handful of crisps or a light green salad on the side.
