Hannah’s Guide to Our Organic Half a Cow Box 🐄
From Hannah, Apprentice Butcher at The Organic Butchery
Hi, I’m Hannah 👋
I work alongside our butchery team here at The Organic Butchery, and I’ve been lucky enough to help prepare and pack a huge number of our Organic Half a Cow Boxes since launch. Every time one goes out, it’s a reminder of just how special this product really is.
This guide is a behind-the-scenes look at what’s inside, how it works, and why it’s become one of our most loved ways to buy organic beef.

What the Half a Cow Box Actually Is
Our Half a Cow Box is exactly what it sounds like — a carefully curated selection of cuts from half an organically reared, 100% grass-fed cow.
The animal is raised slowly on certified organic British farms, with full access to pasture, no antibiotics, and no growth hormones — just natural, ethical farming as it should be.
What you receive is the full story of the animal, broken down into a wide variety of cuts:
- Premium steaks
- Roasting joints
- Slow cook cuts
- Mince, diced beef, and everyday essentials
- Bones, fat, and specialist cuts for cooking deeply and sustainably
It’s everything from quick midweek meals to slow Sunday roasts — all in one order.
Exceptional Value (and a 15% Saving Right Now)
One of the biggest reasons customers choose this box is simple: cost effectiveness.
Buying beef in this way offers significant savings compared to purchasing individual cuts over time.
And right now, with our 15% off offer, customers are saving over £200 on a single box - making it one of the best value ways to fill your freezer with premium organic beef.
It’s a long-term investment in quality food, and in your weekly meals.
Logistics: What to Expect on Delivery
This is a big order — and we treat it with the care it deserves.
- Total weight: 65.74kg of organic beef
- Delivered in approximately 8 separate boxes
- All products are vacuum packed and frozen (excluding bones and skirt steak)
- Arrives on your chosen delivery day
Because of the volume, everything is carefully packed to maintain temperature, quality, and organisation from our butchery straight to your door.

Freezer Space: What You Need
We always get asked this — and it’s really important.
We recommend a freezer of around 80 litres minimum to comfortably store your Half a Cow Box.
Some customers use:
- Chest freezers (ideal)
- Secondary garage freezers
- Or dedicated meal-prep sections in larger freezers
It’s worth planning space ahead of delivery so everything can be stored properly and efficiently.
The Skill Behind the Box
This is one of the things I’m most proud of.
Each Half a Cow order is:
- Broken down by hand
- Individually cut and portioned by our butchers
- Packed and labelled with precision
It takes real skill and experience to ensure every cut is consistent, every pack is correct, and nothing goes to waste.
Our butchery team has decades of combined experience, and this box really shows the craft behind what we do every day.

Why We Created It: Nose to Tail Philosophy
We introduced the Half a Cow Box because we believe in using the whole animal properly.
An organic animal has lived a fully cared-for life — raised slowly, ethically, and with purpose. It only feels right that every part of that animal is respected and used.
This is nose to tail butchery in practice, and it helps:
- Reduce waste
- Honour the animal fully
- Support sustainable farming
- Encourage better cooking habits at home
It’s a traditional way of eating meat, but one that feels more important than ever.
Why It’s So Popular
Since launch, we’ve been genuinely honoured by how many customers have chosen this box.
It has become one of our most in-demand products, and every order still feels special to pack.
It’s used by:
- Families stocking up for months
- Home cooks who value quality
- People wanting to reduce supermarket reliance
- Customers prioritising sustainability and provenance
Every box tells its own story once it reaches your kitchen.

Final Thoughts
For me, the Half a Cow Box represents everything we stand for — craft, respect for the animal, and proper organic food done right.
It’s not just a box of meat. It’s a freezer full of quality, variety, and confidence that will last you a very long time.
And honestly? It’s a privilege every time we pack one.
