Homemade Salmon Broth with Organic Salmon Frames
Serves: Makes approx. 2.5L broth | Time: 1 hour 30 minutes
Our organic salmon frames are perfect for making a rich, nourishing fish broth. Packed with natural flavour and minerals, this broth is a fantastic base for soups, stews, risottos, or even a comforting cup on its own.
Ingredients
-
1 onion, quartered
-
2 carrots, roughly chopped
-
2 celery sticks, roughly chopped
-
2 cloves garlic, smashed
-
1 small bunch fresh parsley
-
1 bay leaf
-
5–6 black peppercorns
-
2 tsp sea salt (adjust to taste)
-
2.5L cold water
-
Optional: a splash of white wine or a few fennel seeds for extra depth
Method
-
Prepare the salmon frames by rinsing under cold water. Pat dry.
-
Place the frames in a large stock pot and cover with 2.5L cold water.
-
Add the onion, carrots, celery, garlic, parsley, bay leaf, peppercorns, and optional seasoning.
-
Bring to a gentle boil, then reduce to a simmer. Skim off any foam that rises to the surface.
-
Simmer gently for 45–60 minutes, allowing the flavours to infuse and the broth to develop a rich, salmon flavour.
-
Strain the broth through a fine sieve or cheesecloth into a clean pot. Discard the solids.
-
Taste and adjust seasoning as needed. Your broth is now ready to use or store in the fridge for up to 3 days (or freeze in portions).
Serving Suggestions
-
Classic Salmon Soup: Add diced vegetables, leftover salmon, or noodles to make a warming soup.
-
Risotto: Use the broth to create a luxurious seafood risotto.
-
