The markings you may see on some cuts of meat are known as Official Health Marks, required by UK and EU legislation. These stamps are applied after slaughter by a qualified vet or food safety officer to confirm that the animal has passed rigorous health inspections and is certified as fit for human consumption.

It’s a standard and essential part of the traceability system that ensures accountability from farm to table — something that aligns closely with our own values of transparency and responsible sourcing.

Is It Safe?

Absolutely. The ink used in these stamps is food-grade, non-toxic, and entirely safe to consume. While it may occasionally remain visible on the surface of a cut, the stamp poses no health risk whatsoever and often disappears during cooking. Alternatively, it can be easily trimmed away without affecting the quality or flavour of the meat.
